TheLizard — I am really happy you are engaged in this discussion because I worry that this whole #fakenews thing will turn into a leftist thing. If it does, we fail. Seeking truthful facts (just that we have to qualify “facts” in that way is a pitiful sign of our times) should not be a partisan thing. So I hope you and others get engaged in this effort.

On some of your points.

I used Snopes just as an example. This system would allow for other fact checkers to be used instead. If you wanted to create TheLizard fact checking and popularize it as a fact checking feed, you could. The real point is we need a feedback mechanism.

It’s important to protect free speech, but there are clearly limits. I assume you agree have have to be some limits. Certainly the courts have ruled free speech is not an unlimited right, just like other rights in the constitution.

On Russian involvement, I don’t quite get your point. Propaganda by a foreign power is ok? Or that there is so much propaganda that who cares if a foreign power spreads it? If either of these hits the mark, I’m not with you.
